Years Teaching: 1+

Education:

Jason has been a trombonist for 11 years, beginning when he started band in the 6th grade. Throughout high school, Jason took many musical opportunities, such as participation in various marching bands/ drum and bugle corps, performing in pit orchestras, and playing in his school’s jazz band. He attended the DePauw University School of Music and graduated with a Bachelor of Musical Arts. There, he learned to refine his playing skills, learn music theory, and begin his teaching career. In 2022, he graduated DePauw before moving back to Georgia to pursue a career in music education.

Experience:

Though a trombonist primarily, Jason has experience and knowledge of all the brass instruments. While attending DePauw University, he taught trombone lessons to students in the local community for a year, before the COVID pandemic made that an impossibility. Under the guidance of Jim Beckel (principal trombonist for the ISO), Jason learned to refine his playing as well as his teaching pedagogy. After graduating, Jason worked as an instrument repair technician and freelance musician in the Indianapolis area. Now he works in Georgia to pursue a master’s degree in music education and help bring music to the lives of the next generation of musicians.

Objectives:

Jason is a strong believer that music is something anyone and everyone can learn—it’s just a matter of putting in the work. His aim is to help students reach their musical goals, while also showing them that music can be a fun and fulfilling activity.
