Education

I first started playing viola in sixth grade at McClure Middle School, but later began playing violin in seventh grade. Since then, the violin has been my primary instrument. I graduated from Harrison High School in May of 2020, where I participated in the Chamber Orchestra as Associate Principal, and was a part of Tri-M, the National Music Honors Society. I was also a part of the student leadership executive board at Harrison as the Middle School Liaison. Essentially, I would spend part of my week at Lost Mountain Middle School assisting the directors there and observing them while they taught. At Harrison, I was given the award for “Outstanding Orchestra Musician” in my junior year. Currently, I am a junior Music Education major at Kennesaw State University where I study under Kenn Wagner of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and I play with the KSU Symphony Orchestra.

Experience

Throughout my years of playing, I have gotten the chance to perform and participate in many events. In middle school, I was a part of our mentoring program. Essentially, older students would come in early in the morning to assist the younger students with learning their parts in orchestra. In high school, I performed in numerous small ensemble performances as a part of Tri-M, ranging from playing at the Belk Charity Event to performing in the lobby before concerts. Currently, I am a member of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) where I participate in numerous outreach events. The ASTA chapter at KSU hosts events such as String Day, the North Georgia Honors Orchestra, and the KSU Invitational, all of which I have participated in and facilitated. For these events, us KSU students are running around making sure everything is running smoothly and assisting the professors who are participating with whatever they need.

Objectives

My goal when teaching is to create a safe space for students to learn and make mistakes while creating music. Many music teachers strive for perfection, but I strive for improvement. I want my students to love their instruments and making music, and I want to teach them the importance of music and how to play their instruments with passion. More than anything, I want to develop a sense of capability and self-confidence in my students through their playing.
