Steven Walker

Steven Walker is an active performer and clinician and records frequently both in Atlanta and throughout the Southeast. He also composes and arranges music for a variety of ensembles and pop groups. Additionally, Steven maintains a private studio where he averages forty students per week.

Steven has been described as a “musician first and a percussionist second”. Although quite comfortable plating in the most aggressive of styles, he still maintains his ability to shift gears at a moment’s notice to play with delicacy and sensitivity.

Growing up in the metro Atlanta area afforded Steven the opportunity to sample wide variety of music. His personal style has been strongly influenced by all that Atlanta has to offer: rock to country, jazz to R & B, and reggae to rap. Furthermore, he continues to play in orchestras and wind/ percussion ensembles.

Steven began studying with various local percussion and music teachers at an early age and continues thought high school. At his point he began a series of rigorous studies in all areas of percussion/ music, believing that in order to be a complete musician, he must understand not only the rhythmical components of music, but also the harmonic and melodic. As a teenager, Steven was involved in rock and jazz bands, Drum Corps International, and Winter Guard International. He went on to complete degrees in Percussion and Music Education.
